Making this CC2-Mod

Starting in September 2009, Holger began to create the
first graphical artworks of a new CC2-mod, covering the
battles around Son during Operation "Market Garden" of WW2.
Holger decided to stay as close as possible to authentic
cartographic material of this area from Dutch, American and
German sources (not only those avaliable on the Internet).
While Mafi was still involved in making tools for the
CC2-community during this time, Holger got into contact
with him. Both agreed to form a team to setup a new CC2-mod
as a follow-up to Mafi's "CC2-SonSouthBridge-Minimod" of
2008. Holger made larger efforts to retrieve Dutch
cartographic material in 2010. The process to turn the new
graphics into a working CC2-mod took until January 2011,
while still some changes had to be done to some of the map
graphics. A provisional homepage was setup and a public
announcement was made at CCS.net site on Jan. 29th, 2011.

Feb. 4th, 2011:
now we can proudly present the first version of the CC2-mod

"Hells' Highway"

consisting out of five brand-new CC2-custom maps with the
features:
- compatible to both, Mac- & PC-version of CC2,
- scale as large as possible for CC2: 19x19 deployment tiles,
- still in sync with original CC2-scale: 5 pixels per meter,
- working correctly with the original CC2 LOS-distance-indicator,
- color style and roof arrangements compatible to original CC2,
- but new textures and style, still looking good with original trees,
- new operation sequence for "Son" area (5 maps instead of 3),
- houses, terrain, canals, streets etc. placed historical correct,
- one hypothetical "what-if" battle South of Son in case the Axis
troops would have succeeded in capturing the road to Son.

Still left to do are some points:
- Bailey bridge at Son should be placed over the blown "Draaibrugg",
- some houses around the Wilhelmina-Kanaal must be moved,
- perhaps the Axis FlaK-gun pit South of the Kanaal is not correct.

This mod was entirely made on Macs!

We have to thank all the CC2-modding gurus of the past,
especially Chris Ellens for making his map-editor "CCEdit".
We have also to thank the guys at former Atomic Games Inc.
and it's founder and former president Keith Zabalaoui for
inventing the Close Combat series of games, especially
CC2-ABTF for Mac!

We both hope that you can still enjoy this mod on your
PPC-Mac or PC!

Cheers
Holger & Mafi
